Can You Enter a Giveaway From Another Country?

Learn how to check entry rules by country, spot U.S.-only limits, and avoid fees as a foreign entrant.
Yes, you can enter a giveaway from another country only when the sponsor lists your country as allowed. A giveaway is a prize drawing where the sponsor sets who may enter and from where. That country rule controls the answer.
According to Meta, promoters using a Page, Group, or Event must ensure legal compliance and disclose entry rules, offer terms, and eligibility, so start with the sponsor's written geography clause (Meta's Pages, Groups and Events Policies).

Where do you check your country?
Read the eligibility section before you enter. Look for words such as residents of, enter in or from, void in, and void where prohibited. Use these checks: If your country is not listed, your entry is not allowed.
If travel or shipping is limited, a foreign win may still fail.
- Do you live in a listed place?
- Will you be in a listed place when you enter?
- Do you meet the listed age?
- Does the drawing include your country for shipping or travel?
Why are many U.S. drawings U.S.-only?
Some sponsors limit entry to the United States. IKEA's 2026 Services Survey Sweepstakes, open January 1 through August 31, 2026, allows only legal residents of the 50 United States or D.C. age 18 or older, and it is void in Puerto Rico, Guam, U.S.
territories, and outside the United States. The same IKEA entry rules state that no purchase or payment is needed and buying does not improve odds. That chance to win is not a prize (IKEA's 2026 survey sweepstakes rules).
When is cross-border entry allowed?
Some sponsors expressly allow several countries. Alienware Arena's Overstock Loot Drop allowed U.S. and Canada outside Quebec residents age 13 and older, plus residents age 16 and older in Australia, New Zealand, France, Ireland, India, Brazil, the U.K., and Germany.
Even that wider pool stayed void where prohibited, and residents of countries under U.S. export-control or sanctions limits were excluded, so local law can still disqualify a foreign entrant (Alienware Arena Overstock Loot Drop rules).
What should foreign winners expect?
A prize can have tax effects in the United States. The IRS counts gambling income as cash plus the fair market value of prizes such as cars and trips, and nonresident aliens with U.S.-source gambling winnings must report on Form 1040-NR with Schedule NEC (IRS guidance on gambling income). Do not pay to enter or claim.
A lawful entry asks for no entry, tax, shipping, or processing fee, and a request for payment means the entry is ineligible.
