Learn how to compare birthday-reward and coupon terms, including minimum spends, exclusions, and no-stacking rules.
Maybe—but do not assume a free birthday reward and a restaurant coupon can be used together. The answer depends on the restaurant's current reward terms and the specific coupon's restrictions. "Stacking" means applying both benefits to one order.
A birthday reward may be a separate loyalty-program benefit, while a coupon can have its own expiration date, purchase requirement, or one-offer limit.

Check the terms for both offers
Start with the birthday reward and the coupon as two separate offers. A restaurant may allow one, prohibit one, or give the coupon more restrictive terms than its general rewards program. Starbucks, for example, says Stars redemptions cannot be combined with other offers or discounts unless it expressly permits that combination.
Its terms also tell members to read the details of each personalized coupon, which may include separate restrictions and expiration dates. Starbucks Rewards Terms Before ordering, check:
- Whether either offer says it cannot combine with discounts or rewards
- The eligible items, locations, and expiration date
- Any minimum-spend requirement
- Instructions shown with the individual reward or coupon
A birthday reward may have eligibility rules first
A birthday offer is not always available simply because it is your birthday. At Starbucks, members must join at least seven days before their birthday, provide a birthday, and complete one Star-earning transaction before the birthday each year. The reward is limited to participating stores and excludes alcohol, multi-serve items, merchandise, and packaged coffee.
Starbucks Rewards Terms Those limits matter even before coupon stacking becomes a question. If the reward does not apply to your chosen item or location, a coupon cannot turn it into an eligible birthday redemption.
Minimum purchases can change the value
Some birthday benefits are free only after a qualifying purchase. Chili's says My Chili's Rewards members can receive a free birthday dessert with at least $5 in food or beverage spending at participating U.S. locations.
Chili's Terms and Conditions That leaves an important practical question: can your coupon reduce the qualifying purchase, or does the coupon itself require a separate purchase? Chili's states that benefits may carry additional terms and tells members to follow the instructions attached to the individual benefit, so its general birthday-dessert language does not confirm stacking. When the terms clearly say no
Some loyalty rewards plainly bar combination. Red Robin's $10 Royalty reward says it cannot be combined with any other reward or discount, so a restaurant coupon and that reward should not be used in the same transaction. Red Robin Royalty Terms Do not treat an older birthday promotion as proof of a current exception.
Red Robin ended its former adult Birthday Burger Offer on June 1, 2026, apart from limited 2026 transition eligibility, and now describes birthday-related offers as personalized Surprise & Delight offers. Red Robin Royalty Terms
