Black Friday Price Matching: Which Stores Still Offer It
Learn which retailers match rival prices, which match only their own, and what proof to bring to checkout.
Very few major chains will meet a rival's Black Friday price this year. Target and Walmart now limit matching to their own prices, while Best Buy still matches qualifying rival prices. Price matching means a retailer agrees to sell an item at a lower price you found elsewhere.
The rules below reflect current retailer pages for November 2026 shopping, including time limits and proof requirements.

Why Target no longer matches rivals
NBC Palm Springs reported that Target ended competitor matching on July 28, 2025 NBC Palm Springs report. Target now matches only identical items priced lower at its stores, website, app, or Target Plus partners. The Target Help Center explains that shoppers can request a match at checkout or within 14 days after purchase Target Help Center article.
The item must match by brand, size, color, quantity and model number, with verifiable Target pricing. From Nov. 1 through Dec.
24, Target adds a holiday adjustment for later Target price drops, not for rival prices.
What Walmart will match
Walmart Corporate states that U.S. stores will match only the identical item advertised on Walmart.com Walmart Corporate answer. Restrictions apply, and the store manager on duty makes the final decision.
The same Walmart Corporate page states that Walmart.com offers no matching for rival prices or prior Walmart.com purchases. It also excludes Marketplace sellers and price differences between Walmart stores.
Where rival matching remains
Best Buy price-match terms state year-round matching for new items sold by Best Buy Best Buy price-match terms. The terms exclude Marketplace products, clearance, refurbished and open-box items, with a limit of one match per identical item. That leaves Best Buy as the remaining broad option among the three verified chains.
Shoppers still need an identical, new item sold directly by Best Buy, not a third-party listing.
How to request a match that fits
Use this quick check before you ask at the register. It reflects the limits named above. Keep the competing listing open on your phone with identifiers visible until the cashier confirms.
- Match exact brand, size, color, quantity and model number.
- Show verifiable pricing from an eligible source for that chain.
- Ask at checkout or, at Target, within 14 days after purchase.
- Accept that a Walmart store manager makes the final call.
- Choose new items sold directly by the retailer, not Marketplace, clearance, refurbished or open-box.
