Black Friday Giveaways on TikTok: How Entry Rules Differ

Check age, location, entry limits and deadlines before commenting to enter a TikTok holiday giveaway.
Black Friday giveaways on TikTok do not use one shared entry rule. Each sponsor sets its own eligibility, entry step, entry limit and deadline, within TikTok Shop limits where they apply. A TikTok Shop giveaway is a prize draw run by a seller or creator to promote products.
That means a comment, follow or watch action counts only when that prize post says it counts.

What TikTok Shop requires
TikTok Seller University states Shop sellers and creators must offer prizes entirely free and use the LIVE Giveaway feature. That policy caps each prize below $500. The TikTok Seller University policy also bars cash, gift cards and virtual currency as prizes, plus wheel spins and similar random entry routes TikTok Shop giveaway policy.
Those limits shape what sellers can offer during holiday pushes. They do not set your entry steps. The sponsor post still sets those.
Why the sponsor post controls entry
A TikTok video or comment box is not the entry rule. The linked prize terms tied to that video set the entry action, who may enter and when entry closes. That is why one post can ask for a LIVE interaction while another asks for a different listed step.
Assuming any comment counts risks missing the listed requirement. No purchase necessary means you need not buy to enter. Free to enter describes cost.
Chance to win means only some entrants receive a prize.
How two past examples differed
StockX offered one Apple AirPods Max ($450 ARV) as a chance to win, not a free item for all. StockX rules limited entry to legal residents of the 50 U.S. states and D.C., age 18+, located in the U.S., with no purchase.
StockX set entry from noon EST Nov. 22 to noon EST Nov. 23, 2023, with selection and announcement Nov.
23 StockX Pre-Black Friday TikTok rules. Tommee Tippee terms restrict each prize draw to UK residents age 18+. Tommee Tippee allows only one entry per person per draw, disqualifies duplicates, and requires no purchase or payment Tommee Tippee TikTok Live terms.
StockX states its contest is governed by U.S. law, void where prohibited, and winning depends on meeting all stated requirements with sponsor decisions final. Read that post for that prize instead of reusing steps from another giveaway.
Do entry posts need a disclosure?
Federal Trade Commission guidance treats a social post made to enter a contest or sweepstakes as an incentivized endorsement needing clear disclosure. The Federal Trade Commission guidance advises #XYZ_Contest or #XYZ_Sweepstakes should suffice, while #XYZ_Rocks alone does not Federal Trade Commission endorsement guidance. For readers, that means copy the tag exactly as the sponsor lists it.
Do not shorten it to a slogan tag. An entry post is public and tied to the prize. Keep the required tag visible and keep any other entry step in the same post where the sponsor can find it.
How to check a post before entering
Use the sponsor text as the checklist. Platform limits do not replace it. Save the terms showing the deadline before you enter, then follow only those listed steps.
- Check age and place: confirm you meet the listed age and resident rules.
- Check cost: confirm whether the post asks for no purchase or lists a payment step.
- Check count and clock: confirm one-entry limits, duplicate rules and the stated deadline.
- Check prize and chance: confirm the named prize, value and that winning is a chance, not a gift for all.
