Black Friday Gift Card Bonus Offers: How They Work

Understand bonus thresholds, separate bonus cards, and key redemption limits before buying holiday gift cards.

Black Friday gift-card bonus offers add a second, separate bonus card or certificate when paid gift-card purchases reach a threshold. The first card keeps its full value, while the bonus carries its own spending rules. Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort describes this split-bonus pattern for its own promotion.

A $100 gift-card purchase includes a $20 handwritten bonus certificate, with complimentary certificates valid through December 30, 2026, as shown on its direct offer page.

How is the bonus delivered?

Apple used a purchase-with-device version during its Nov. 29–Dec. 2, 2024 event.

Shoppers received an Apple Gift Card worth up to $200 with an eligible-device purchase. Refurbished, end-of-life, open-box, and some financed or carrier-connected iPhones were excluded, according to Apple in its shopping-event terms. The delivery method changes how shoppers use the deal.

A separate bonus certificate works apart from the first card. A device-linked gift card arrives as part of a larger purchase.

What limits come with the extra gift?

Starbucks Coffee Company ran a buy $25 or more eGift, get a $5 eGift deal for the first 200,000 qualifying buyers. That $5 promotional gift worked only at participating stores, could not be redeemed for cash unless required by law, could not be transferred or substituted, carried no service fees, and did not expire. The May 19–21, 2026 deal allowed one promotional gift per person, and buyers needed to confirm the redemption window, participating locations, and delivery email because lost or non-deliverable bonuses might not be resent, as described in its offer terms.

Those details decide whether the bonus has value for a specific buyer. A cap on quantity affects who receives it. A store limit affects where it can be spent.

What should you check before you pay?

Read the bonus terms apart from the main card terms. The main card and the bonus often have different dates, locations, and delivery steps. Save the confirmation and check spam or inbox filters early.

A missed email or missed date can leave the bonus unclaimed.

  • Confirm the bonus start and end dates for redemption.
  • Confirm which locations accept the bonus.
  • Confirm which email address will receive a digital bonus.

What protects the main gift card?

Federal rules bar sale of gift cards that expire in under five years. They also bar inactivity or service charges during the first 12 months without use, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in its gift-card guidance. That protection applies to the purchased card, not the promotion schedule.

A bonus certificate can still have a shorter sponsor-set use window. Compare both dates before planning holiday spending.
