Black Friday Credit Card Perks: Extended Warranty & Price Protection

Learn how card extended warranty adds a year and what receipts to keep for holiday claims.

For Black Friday electronics and appliances, extended warranty means the card adds extra coverage after the maker warranty ends. Price protection means the card refunds part of the cost if the price falls soon after purchase. Both perks work only when your card still lists them.

Check the current Guide to Benefits before you pay, then keep your receipts.

How much extra warranty time do you get?

Chase says Freedom and Sapphire cards add one extra year to an eligible U.S. maker warranty of three years or less. The limit is $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per account, described in the Chase extended-warranty explainer.

American Express says most U.S. cards extend an original maker warranty of five years or less by up to one added year. The limit is $10,000 per item and $50,000 per card account per year, described in the American Express benefits page.

What should you do at checkout?

Use a card whose Guide to Benefits confirms extended warranty for that purchase. Save the store receipt, the maker warranty paper, and the card statement in one place.

  • Pay with the card you want to cover the item
  • Save the receipt and warranty document
  • Note the maker warranty length and end date
  • Keep the Guide to Benefits for that account

Can you still get a price-drop refund?

Treat price protection as card-specific. Open the current Guide to Benefits and look for that term before you count on it. If your card lists it, read what purchases count and how to file.

Do not assume a store price match equals a card refund.

How do you file a warranty claim?

Chase notes buyers can file through chasecardbenefits.com or the Amex benefits administrator. That process is outlined on the Chase warranty protection page. Have the receipt, warranty document, and statement ready when you start.

File under the account used for the purchase and follow the administrator steps.
