Black Friday Coupon Stacking: What Stores Actually Allow

Learn which stores let you combine coupons and where only one discount applies at checkout.

Coupon stacking means using more than one discount on the same item or order. Target, Kohl's and CVS allow defined combinations, while Best Buy limits online checkout to one promo code. The difference matters on Black Friday because sale prices, coupons and rewards interact in fixed ways.

Knowing the allowed combination helps you enter codes in the right order and avoid losing a discount at checkout.

What counts as stacking?

A manufacturer coupon comes from the product maker and applies to a specific item. A store coupon, category offer or promo code comes from the retailer and applies to an item, department or whole order. Rewards such as ExtraBucks or a rewards certificate are separate credits that may join the same transaction when the policy allows it.

True stacking puts two or more of these on the same item or in the same order. Pairing one coupon with an already reduced sale price also lowers the total, even when only one coupon is used.

How can three discounts combine on one item?

Target Help explains that shoppers can combine one manufacturer coupon plus one Target category offer plus one Target item-level Circle offer on the same single item, in store and online, according to Target's coupons and deals page. That structure allows a national coupon, a department promotion and a personalized item offer to reduce the same product. Limits apply beside that benefit.

Target caps identical coupons at four per household per day, rejects expired coupons, does not apply coupons to prior purchases, and excludes clearance from Circle deals unless stated.

  • Check that each discount targets a different slot: maker, category and item.
  • Scan the maker coupon before the store offers when the register asks for order.
  • Stop at four identical coupons to avoid a rejection at checkout.

How do multiple codes work online?

Kohl's FAQ states that Kohls.com accepts up to four promo codes on one order, with only one sitewide percent-off code, plus multiple department-specific codes and up to six dollar-off codes such as Kohl's Cash, as described in Kohl's stackable coupons FAQ. A shopper could therefore use one sitewide code, one coat-department code and Kohl's Cash together. The practical step is to add the sitewide code first, then department codes, then dollar-off credits.

If a second sitewide percent-off code will not apply, replace it with a department code for an item already in the cart.

Where can two coupons apply to the same item?

The CVS Pharmacy Coupon Policy allows one manufacturer coupon per qualifying item and permits stacking a manufacturer coupon and a CVS store coupon on the same item, with ExtraBucks rewards usable in the same transaction, according to the CVS coupon policy. A qualifying toothpaste purchase could therefore take a maker coupon and a CVS coupon together, then use ExtraBucks toward the balance. The maker coupon cannot exceed the item count.

Bring one maker coupon for each qualifying package, match the size and formula named on the coupon, and keep the store coupon for the same visit.

Why do some carts accept only one code?

Best Buy Help allows only one promotional discount code per BestBuy.com checkout, so shoppers cannot stack multiple promo codes in one order, as explained in Best Buy's special offers help page. Practical Black Friday savings there come from combining that one code with a sale price, membership perk, open-box price or rewards certificate instead. Test the combination before paying.

Enter the single code, confirm the sale price remains, then apply any available certificate or pickup option that the checkout still accepts.
