Black Friday Camera Deals: Worth Buying or Wait Until Spring?

Pick a specific older mirrorless kit now, or wait for spring trade-ins and clearance if you want new releases.
Buy on Black Friday if you have already picked a specific older interchangeable-lens camera, meaning a body that accepts swappable lenses, at a set target price. Wait until spring if you want a just-released body, a hard-to-find model, or extra value for a trade-in. Past seasons show large cuts landing on select kits rather than across all cameras.
That pattern makes the choice depend on the exact model on your list, not on the week itself.

Which holiday cuts actually happened?
PetaPixel reported in its November 27 roundup flagship examples that included $900 off the Sony a7R V to $3,298. The same roundup listed $800 off a $4,296.95 Nikon kit to $3,496.95. Those were model-specific reductions on higher-priced kits.
Shoppers who tracked one exact body and lens combination could see whether the holiday price beat earlier fall pricing.
How large should you expect savings to be?
Adobe reported in its Cyber Monday recap that U.S. online electronics discounts peaked at 31% off listed price on Cyber Monday 2025. That figure covers all electronics as an average.
It is not a camera-only price promise. A camera discount can be much smaller, even when televisions or accessories show deeper percentage cuts.
What can spring offer instead?
Spring can add trade-in value rather than a lower shelf price. Mike's Camera described in its April 6 post how Canon offered up to $500 extra trade-in credit toward select EOS and Cinema EOS products for working interchangeable-lens trade-ins through May 4, 2025. Spring also brings new releases and clearance chances.
PetaPixel noted in its March 1 recap that CP+ 2026 ran Feb. 26-March 1 in Yokohama, with lenses and concepts leading and major camera announcements made a month before.
How do you decide this week?
Match the calendar to your model status. An older kit with a documented price drop fits a November purchase. A rumored replacement, low stock, or planned upgrade fits waiting.
Keep the receipt and box until you have tested the camera with your own memory card and computer.
- Write down the exact body, lens, battery, and card included.
- Compare the holiday total against the early-fall total for that same bundle.
- Check the return window, warranty terms, and who handles repairs.
- Skip add-ons that change the kit price after you set a target.
