Best Family Giveaways in Jersey City, NJ: 2026 Local Guide

Jersey City families have four verified giveaway options for fall 2026. They include an Oct. 24 Baby Fair, library backpacks, monthly building workshops, and a birthday reward.

A free item means you receive it at the event. A raffle means you enter for a chance to win. That difference matters for planning time and travel.

Do free backpacks remain in October?

The hospital backpack event for 2026 has passed. RWJBarnabas Health held its Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway on Aug. 19, 2026, at 1825 JFK Blvd.

Both parent and child had to attend to receive one backpack with supplies, while supplies lasted. Jersey City Free Public Library runs a systemwide Annual Backpack Giveaway with backpacks filled with supplies and resources, described in its events calendar. Branch schedules and registration limits control availability.

Contact your branch for dates, age rules, and signup limits before visiting.

What happened to the free diaper event?

Luvs placed a free billboard at Mary McLeod Bethune Park, 143 MLK Drive, on Oct. 3, 2026, from 12 to 6 p.m. Each family could receive one box of diapers, while supplies lasted.

The account comes from a Luvs and P&G press release carried by Business Wire. Those park boxes were one-day-only, not ongoing free stock. The same company release committed 250,000 diapers to Feeding America, plus social giveaways and retailer discounts through the end of 2026.

Do not visit the park expecting free diapers now.

Which extras run year-round?

The Home Depot corporate newsroom describes free in-store Kids Workshops on the first Saturday each month, from 9 a.m. to noon, in its company program post. Children build a monthly project and receive a kit, apron, pin, and certificate.

Online registration applies, with redemption at Jersey City-area stores. Starbucks describes a separate birthday benefit in its Rewards Terms. Members can earn one Birthday Reward, added on their birthday and valid only that date, for use at participating Jersey City stores.

• Join at least 7 days before your birthday.
• Make one Star-earning transaction each year.
• Redeem only on your birthday date.
