Compare Plano's 2026 school-supply fairs, eligibility limits, and tax savings to plan next summer's shopping.
Plano's best-documented 2026 giveaways were the Plano Independent School District (Plano ISD) Back to School Fair and Prestonwood's School Pak distribution. Classroom help through the Plano ISD Education Foundation's CORE Store and Texas's Aug. 7-9 sales-tax holiday rounded out local savings.
Plano ISD is the public school system serving most of Plano. All four options ran in late July through early August as direct distributions, not prize drawings. October readers should use eligibility and limits to plan for next summer.

What did the district fair offer?
Plano ISD held its annual Back to School Fair at Plano Event Center, 2000 E. Spring Creek Pkwy. The district describes backpacks filled with school supplies plus enrollment help and community resources on Plano ISD's Back to School Fair page.
The July 30, 4-7 p.m. program also listed free haircuts, boxes of shelf-stable food, health screenings and immunizations. District departments and city agencies staffed tables, according to the Plano Council of PTAs newsletter summarizing the Plano ISD and City listing.
Who qualified for a backpack?
Backpacks were limited to Plano ISD families in need who pre-registered. Students had to attend with tickets to receive them, based on a July 2026 school newsletter sharing Plano ISD details. Pre-registration matched limited supply to demand.
Families planning ahead should watch Plano ISD enrollment channels early and keep ticket confirmations accessible.
- Confirm Plano ISD enrollment and need status before registration opens.
- Register in advance and save tickets for each student.
- Bring students to the fair; staff gave bags to attending students with tickets.
- Plan backup supplies if arriving without registration, since extra bags were limited.
What did the church distribution add?
Prestonwood Baptist Church's Plano Campus collected School Paks through July 15. School Paks are pre-packed supply kits for an Aug. 2 distribution by Prestonwood Cares and Prestonwood en Espanol.
The church sought volunteers, backpack sponsors and donations, according to its July 13, 2025 worship guide. Prestonwood supplied more than 2,100 school paks in 2026, with 650 children served at its Spanish-ministry event, according to Biblical Recorder's August 2026 report. That reach helps families outside the district fair's registration pool.
How did the sales-tax holiday help?
Texas's 2026 sales-tax holiday ran Aug. 7-9. It exempted clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100 per item, including Plano purchases, according to Texas Comptroller's holiday reminder.
The per-item test mattered for families comparing backpacks and shoes. Shoppers saved the tax on each qualifying item under $100, not on a cart total.
How do teachers get classroom supplies?
The Plano ISD Education Foundation says its CORE Store supplies free classroom and school supplies to Plano ISD teachers. The Foundation routinely contributes 1,400-1,500+ stuffed backpacks for the fair, according to the Foundation's CORE Store page. That teacher channel does not replace family backpacks.
