DC Public Library giveaway dates
DC Public Library's August series offers free bookbags, school supplies, and activities at several branches. DYRS Back2School at RFK
The DC Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services, commonly called DYRS, will hold its Back2School event on August 14, 2026, at 11 a.m. It takes place at The Fields at RFK, 401 Oklahoma Avenue NE. The DYRS event announcement includes free backpacks, school supplies, uniforms, haircuts, food, and family activities.
That menu describes the planned offerings, but it does not mean every attendee will receive every item.
Who qualifies for the free supplies?
The published information does not set one citywide eligibility rule. It also does not say that advance registration is required for the listed events. For Capitol View, the city provides no residency, age, registration, quantity, or availability requirements.

Kids Ride Free is not a school-supply giveaway, but it can reduce transportation costs during the school year. DC students ages 5 through 21 who are enrolled in DC schools can receive no-cost Metrobus and Metrorail access. According to the District Department of Transportation's March 2026 notice, families obtain Kids Ride Free cards through their school ID administrator.
