St. Pete pickup spots, hours, and limits for 2026 school-supply events, plus how to confirm what help remains.

St. Petersburg families found free backpacks and supplies at several one-day events in summer 2026. The updated 2026 list runs from July 11 through Aug.

4 across South and North St. Pete sites. A back-to-school giveaway here means an in-person handoff of backpacks, supplies, food or health checks for kids.

Most of those July-August dates have passed as of fall 2026. Families now need pickup limits, locations and the City guide to confirm what help remains.

What was on the 2026 list?

The City of St. Petersburg published a Back to School Community Resources Guide for the 2026-2027 school year. It highlighted free backpack giveaways, supply distributions, health fairs and family festivals by local groups, described in the City community resources guide.

The St. Petersburg Housing Authority held its annual SPHA Back 2 School Bash on Aug. 4, 2026.

It ran from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Thomas "Jet" Jackson Recreation Center, 1000 28th St. S.

The event gave free backpacks, snacks and supplies to SPHA youth, according to the Housing Authority announcement. Daystar Life co-hosted through its Packs and Snacks drive, and the City of St. Petersburg sponsored the bash for SPHA families.

Gulf Coast Community Church hosted a free Back to School Summer Bash on July 11. It ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

at 555 76th Ave. N. Attending kids received school-supply bags plus water slides and free lunch, listed on the church Summer Bash page.

The Pinellas County Urban League listed its Bounce Back to School giveaway on Aug. 1. It ran from 4 to 7 p.m.

at Deuces Park, 2184 Ninth Ave. S. It offered backpacks, food, vendors and family activities.

The Junior League of St. Petersburg held its Back-to-School Care Fair on July 25. It ran from 8 a.m.

to noon at Evara Health Johnnie Ruth Clarke Center, 1344 22nd St. S. It gave free backpacks, supplies, school and sports physicals, dental exams and books with no attendance requirements, shared via WFTS Tampa Bay 28's Care Fair page.

Who qualified for each pickup?

Eligibility differed by host. The Housing Authority bash served SPHA youth, while the Junior League fair set no attendance requirements. Most events were one-day and in-person with caps.

Gulf Coast bags were first-come first-served while supplies lasted, so late arrival could miss out. Check your fit before going:

  • SPHA bash: youth from SPHA households, evening hours
  • Gulf Coast bash: attending kids, bags while supplies last
  • Care Fair: open to families, no attendance rule
  • Deuces Park event: families for food, vendors and backpacks

What did pickup day require?

Families had to bring the child and appear in person. The City guide stressed confirming times because each site kept its own hours. Plan for a capped line: Evening and weekend hours varied.

The SPHA bash ran after work, while weekend fairs ran in morning and afternoon windows.

  • Arrive early for first-come bags
  • Bring the child who will receive supplies
  • Check the City guide for times and remaining help

What should families do now?

Today is Oct. 11, 2026, so July and August pickups have passed. Do not travel to a summer address expecting supplies.

Use the City Back to School Community Resources Guide to confirm times and remaining resources. The guide points to local groups beyond one-day backpack lines. Keep the child's school supply list with you when you call or visit.

Check hours the same day, because summer schedules do not carry into fall.
