Invitation-Only and Closed Events
Boston Public Schools will hold its Annual Citywide Kindergarten Celebration on Tuesday, August 25, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Boston Children's Museum. Invited incoming kindergarten families receive backpacks containing school supplies, and BPS says it mails postcards to eligible families through its summer resources program.
The Salvation Army's 15th annual Boston-area event is August 12 at TD Garden, with backpacks, supplies, winter coats, and other resources. However, registration is closed, so families should not treat it as a walk-in giveaway.
Free College Event With Swag and Prizes
CollegeFest is scheduled for September 27, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Citizens House of Blues Boston.
Admission is free for college students who show an active college ID. The event includes free swag and opportunities to enter prizes or sweepstakes. An RSVP upgrades attendees to VIP entry and prize eligibility, according to the Boston CollegeFest event page.
Programs That Do Not Offer Public Pickup
Cradles to Crayons distributes backpacks and school essentials through service partners under its Ready for Learning initiative.
